The central character is Rufus Barma, sitting on the ground facing the left with his back turned. Rufus is looking over his left shoulder towards the front, his deep red robes billow around him, and his right hand holds an open foldable fan in front of his face, all in all causing his shape and form to be almost completely obscured. A long stretch of sheer bright red fabric falls from the top left corner and curls around Rufus's form, while small pink flower petals scatter down from above. There is a chain hanging over Rufus's lap, but where it starts and where it ends is unclear. Rufus's left hand is braced on the ground, fingers splayed over an unfurled scroll of texts that he had been reading. In the background is the black-and-white silhouette of a book, one of Arthur Barma's Memoirs.
